Photo Competition Winner Announced!

All our winners and runners up of our Wildlife & Nature Photo Competition enjoyed an informal award ceremony at The RSPB Lodge in Sandy yesterday afternoon as part of their Big Garden Birdwatch Warm Up Weekend. Despite the snowy conditions we saw a lot of passionate photographers travel from far and wide to collect their prizes and a copy of their 2019 charity calendar. Mark Brandon, The RSPB Visitor Experiences Manager, welcomed everyone and John Jefferies, owner of Fuller’s Hill Cottages, gave a short speech and thanked everyone for entering the competition and also The RSPB, Snappy Snaps in Biggleswade and Max Spielman. Explore the beautiful Cambridgeshire countryside and use one of our country cottages as your base for your self-catering holiday this year. Fullers Hill is surrounded by miles of footpaths and bridle ways. To the north are the woods of Waresley and Gransdens with many paths. Waresley wood is especially nice. These woods managed by the wild life trust are a carpet of blue in the spring time when the bluebells appear. To the East is Hayley wood near Longstowe, which has SSSI status. Harvest has begun at Fuller’s Hill Cottages!

Cottages on a working farm   Harvest is in full swing at Fuller’s Hill Cottages at the moment having started on Monday 28th July. Barry is working on the combine harvester (a New Holland CX8090 which is called Holly), travelling up and down the fields all day long until the late hours. Barry is now in his 54th year of driving the combine at Fuller’s Hill Farm.  Giel is transporting the wheat grain to the farmyard and empties the trailer onto the concrete pad in the farmyard. The Tour de France 2014 Comes Near Fuller’s Hill Cottages!

The Tour de France comes through Cambridge one month from today, on Monday 7th July, about a 20mins drive from Fuller’s Hill Cottages. Beginning on Gonville Place by Parker’s Piece, the peloton will ride through the historic city centre via Regent Street and Sidney Street before turning left at the Round Church. The riders will then travel past the world famous colleges of St Johns, Trinity and Kings as they cycle along Kings Parade and Trumpington Street before leaving the city via Trumpington Road. Flowers Are Blooming at Fullers Hill Cottages

Some wonderful Clematis and tulips are blooming at Fullers Hill Cottages (Near Gamlingay), as seen in these pictures. The Clematis, otherwise known as Old man’s beard, Traveller’s joy or Virgin’s bower, is by the main entrance to the cottages’ car park and is about 10 feet high. Did you know that Clematis is from the Buttercup family and is mainly of Japanese and Chinese origin? The Clematis is growing on the former wash house dating back to the 1800’s.
