The Whittle family made the long drive in their horsebox from Bournemouth, with their four horses, Winston, Robi, Parry and McCoy. They st ayed in the Old Dairy, whilst the horses were stabled in our private stable yard behind Fullers Hill Farmhouse.
Despite arriving after dark due to the usual hold ups on the M25, the horses settled happily into their accommodation, and were soon munching away contentedly. The next morning they were turned out in their own designated paddock, where they enjoyed a good run around to stretch their legs before getting down to the serious business of grazing. In the meantime the Whittles went off to explore the local area, and enjoyed an excellent brunch at Wood View Farm Shop, just a few miles away.
In the afternoon the horses were brought in, tacked up and taken out for a ride around the local bridleways, which are literally on the doorstep.
The following day they ventured further afield, and rode to the Chequers pub in the village of Wrestlingworth, (which can be reached almost entirely via bridleways), where they enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of Dave and Carin Moore. Not only were food and drinks brought out for them, but carrots for the horses too! The ‘pub ride’ was so enjoyable that it was repeated on the last day of their visit, and we are all very grateful to the Moores and their staff for being so welcoming to riders and horses alike!
As the week was such a success, we are hoping to welcome more four legged guests in the future. If you like the idea of bringing your horse or pony for a tailor-made mini break, please contact Cathy Jefferies at Fullers Hill Cottages to discuss your requirements. Tel: 07873 395423
We (the Whittles) had a great time. Cathy and family were very friendly and helpful! Cathy gave us various maps with bridle paths on for rides, she came to the pub on our first ride out to make sure we got there ok and brought water for our horses. Always on hand and helpful, we had a really great time and will return with our horses again. We are already planning a trip just with the dogs in December for a little Christmas shopping etc. If you decide to stay you will love it.
